Representative Jonathan Shell was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2012 as the youngest member of the General Assembly.

He is a native of his district, graduating from Garrard County High School. Jonathan went on to earn his Bachelors of Science in Agriculture from Eastern Kentucky University.

Farming is a big part of Jonathan’s life and he helps run his family farm in Lancaster. He uses his farming experience while serving on the Tobacco Settlement Agreement Fund Oversight Committee and the Rural Issues Committee. Jonathan also serves as a member of the Banking and Insurance Committee and Local Government Committee.

Making state government smaller and smarter is Representative Shell’s focus as he works to serve the people of Garrard, Madison, and Rockcastle in Frankfort. He has been very vocal and active in pursuing welfare reform and other measures to fight wasteful government spending.

Jonathan was elected by his fellow caucus members to serve as the House Republican Campaign Chairman, overseeing all Republican recruitment for the 2016 State House elections. He has encouraged conservatives across Kentucky to run in their districts this year, while also hitting the campaign trail himself.

Jonathan and his wife, Brooke, have two young children, Jaxson and Lydia. The four of them reside on their farm in Lancaster.
